An ICP Research Prompt for Gemini 3 Deep Research

One prompt that asks Gemini to research who needs your offer most, who can pay for it and what makes them buy, then write it up as an ICP dossier.

Download as PDFPDF · 4 PAGES · 1 CHAPTERS · FREEThe whole guide is on this page. Want it as a designed PDF to keep and share? We email it over.

Copy the prompt below into Gemini 3 Deep Research. Fill in the four fields under "The Offering" first.

01The prompt

Role & Objective:

You are an expert Market Strategist and Product Marketing Manager. Your goal is to conduct a Deep Research Analysis to identify and define the Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) for the specific offering described below.

Context:

I don't want generic "surface-level" demographics (like "males, 25-40"). I need a psychographic and situational deep dive. I need to understand who suffers the most without this product, who has the budget to pay for it, and exactly what triggers them to buy.

_____

The Offering:

Product/Service Name: [INSERT NAME HERE]

Core Value Proposition: [INSERT SHORT DESCRIPTION OF WHAT IT DOES]

Target Industry/Niche (Hypothesis): [INSERT YOUR INITIAL TARGET IDEA, e.g., "B2B SaaS" or "Homeowners in Florida"]

Price Point/Model: [INSERT PRICING, e.g., "$500/month subscription" or "High-ticket consulting"]

_____

Instructions:

Perform the research in the following 4 steps. Do not output the final profile until you have completed the reasoning steps.

Step 1: The "Pain-to-feature" Mapping (Internal Analysis)

Analyze the product's features. For every feature, ask: "What specific expensive or painful problem does this solve?" and "Who is currently losing money or time because they don't have this?"

Identify the "Anti-ICP." Who might want this but cannot afford it, or will churn quickly? (We want to avoid these).

Step 2: Situational Triggers & Jobs-to-be-Done

Identify the "Trigger Event." People don't wake up and buy this product for no reason. What specifically happens in their life or business 2 weeks before they start looking for a solution like this? (e.g., a new regulation passed, a key employee quit, they just got funding).

Define the "Job-to-be-Done." In their own words, what are they trying to achieve? (e.g., not "buy software," but "stop staying at the office until 9 PM").

Step 3: The Decision Matrix

Who is the Economic Buyer vs. the User? (If B2B).

Where do they hang out digitally? (Be specific: Subreddits, specific newsletters, LinkedIn groups, conferences).

What are the top 3 objections they will have before buying?

Step 4: Final Output (The ICP Dossier)

Based on the analysis above, generate a detailed ICP Dossier using this format:

1. The One-Line Avatar: (A specific, vivid description of the perfect customer).

2. Demographic/Firmographic Filter: (Company size, revenue, location, role, or age/income).

3. The "Hair-on-Fire" Pain Point: (The acute problem that makes them buy now).

4. The Trigger Event: (The specific moment they enter the market).

5. The "Anti-ICP": (Who we should explicitly IGNORE).

6. Keyword & Content Strategy: (5 specific search terms they use and 3 content topics they are currently reading).
