A task list sorted by creation date is a list nobody opens. The same tasks sorted by what is actually due are a plan for the morning.
A single ordered list of eighteen tasks reads as eighteen things you are behind on. The same tasks in four groups read as three things to deal with now and a week that is under control, which is both more accurate and considerably more likely to result in work getting done.
Items that went overdue recently are actionable: they slipped and can be caught. Items overdue by months are not a scheduling problem, they are a decision nobody has made, and surfacing them daily trains people to scroll past the top of the digest.
Nothing is reassigned, rescheduled or closed. It reports what is open and when it is due. Changing the work is the person's job.
Skills compound. These are the ones we usually install alongside it.
