The 2026 ABM Engine

How a Target Account List Becomes the Right Play

Get the next issue by email ↓

Hey there,

If you’ve been in the outbound space for 10 years, you’ve probably heard about how ABM has a reputation for being expensive, slow, and reserved for companies with seven-figure marketing budgets.

That reputation is now outdated.

Cheap data infrastructure, AI research agents, and signal tracking tools have changed the economics entirely. The hard part is no longer access. It is building the system underneath it.

Here is the engine we deploy for clients.

When ABM is the right call

Before building anything, you need to know if ABM is the right motion. In our experience it works best in two scenarios: a constrained total addressable market of under 20,000 companies with an ACV above $50,000, or a high-ACV product that requires an enterprise, high-touch sales process. If neither applies, you are likely better off with a broader outbound or demand-gen approach.

When it does apply, ABM is the strongest GTM strategy available because it is channel-agnostic. It is not a campaign. It is a system that works backwards from a defined list of target accounts and assigns every account the right move at the right time.

The 10-step system

The engine starts wide and narrows deliberately.

Step 1 is building the ICP model.

You study the accounts already in your CRM, formulate a scoring model, and backtest it against your TAM before a single outreach dollar is spent.

Step 2 is mapping the TAM.

You pull lists from multiple sources, Apollo, Ocean.io, Prospeo, AI Ark, then aggregate, deduplicate, and normalise everything in Claude Code. One clean master list is the foundation everything else is built on.

Step 3 is qualification and account research.

AI research agents run an initial qualification pass on every account based on their website. For accounts that pass, Clay enriches every data point your team used to pull manually. Thirty-plus fields, done at scale.

Step 4 is where the system gets its logic.

You sync all research to your CRM and auto-assign every account a tier: Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3. This single decision determines the play each account receives downstream. Everything that follows is a function of the tier assigned here.

Step 5 covers contact sourcing.

Decision makers, champions, and influencers at every qualified company, with verified emails and phone numbers via Findymail and BetterContact.

Steps 6 and 7 are where intent enters the picture. Step 6 captures first, second, and third party signals across the entire target account list and routes them to reps via Slack and CRM tasks. Step 7 rolls those signals into five awareness stages: Identified, Aware, Interested, Considering, and Selecting. Your reps always know exactly where each account sits.

Step 8 is demand generation, and this is where the tier logic from step 4 pays off.

Tier 1 accounts and high-intent accounts get 1:1 treatment: gifting, custom microsites, manual outreach. Tier 2 and Tier 3 accounts run 1:many plays at scale via Smartlead, HeyReach, and Kixie. The play was never a judgment call. It was determined by the scoring model in week one.

Step 9 is sales enablement.

Playbooks built around signal activation, AI-drafted email and call scripts, account ownership workflows, and account digests so reps walk into every conversation with full context.

Step 10 is reporting, and it is the one that aligns sales and marketing on the same number.

ICP pipeline created and closed. Supporting reports track signal-influenced deals, awareness stage regression month over month, and Tier 1 accounts with no activity in the last 30 days.

Most teams treat demand generation as a menu of tactics. ABM treats it as an output. By the time you reach the plays, the system has already made the decision. The tier assigned in step 4 is the answer to what happens in step 8. That is the difference between running ABM and running it as a system.

We can build this for you

This is the exact system Kinetyca deploys for clients operating in constrained, high-ACV markets. From ICP model to live reporting, we build and run the full engine so your team does not have to piece it together from scratch.
