After building 160+ GTM systems, this is how we think about signal-led ABM.
Across different teams, we kept seeing the same problem.
Accounts were showing intent, but no one was connecting it.
A company would visit the website several times.
Someone from that same account would engage with a newsletter.
Intent data would spike a few weeks later.
Each signal lived in a different tool. Each team saw a fragment. No one saw the full picture.
Individually, those actions looked small. Together, they were early buying motion.
So we built a system that treats signals as account-level behaviour, not isolated events.
Here is the exact flow.
Step 1: Detect account-level signals
We start by identifying companies already showing activity.
- Buying intent
- Website visits
- Competitor engagement
- Newsletter activity
- Ad engagement
The goal is not to react to everything.
It is to notice when an account begins to move.
Step 2: Centralise everything in one system
All detected accounts are pushed into Clay as the central workspace.
Every signal is attached to one account timeline.
This prevents fragmented context and allows real decision-making instead of guesswork.
Step 3: Qualify against ICP
Not every active account deserves outreach.
We check each account against clear qualification rules:
- ICP fit
- Company size and geography
- Industry match
- Existing customers or open opportunities
If an account does not meet criteria, it stops here.
Most accounts do.
That is intentional.
Step 4: Enrich with purpose
For accounts that pass qualification, we add context.
- Firmographic data
- Relevant contacts
- Missing fields needed for routing or outreach
Enrichment is not bulk.
It is added because the next action requires it.
Step 5: Generate signal-based messaging
Outreach is based on what the account actually did.
A company researching competitors receives different messaging than one visiting a pricing page.
An account engaging with educational content is approached differently than one interacting with ads.
The signal determines the message.
Step 6: Activate the right channels
Channel selection depends on account value and signal strength.
- Calls
- Personalised videos or voice notes when relevant
This is not multichannel for the sake of volume.
It is deliberate and contextual.
Step 7: Route meetings and update CRM
When interest turns into intent, meetings are booked directly into sales calendars.
All activity and signals are written back to the CRM.
Sales can see not just that a meeting happened, but why the account entered the system in the first place.
Signal-led ABM is not about sending more outreach.
It is about recognising movement early, qualifying carefully, and responding with context.
Most companies already generate signals through content, ads, and traffic.
The difference is whether those signals stay invisible or become structured pipeline.
That is the shift this system is built to make.
If you want to turn account signals into structured pipeline instead of scattered activity, this is exactly what we build.
We would be glad to look at your current GTM stack and design a system around it.
