This is the most frequent content task there is, and the way it fails is always the same: the rewrite quietly improves things nobody asked it to improve.
Make only the change that was asked for. This is stated first because it is the rule that causes the most rework when it is broken, and it gets broken constantly: asked for a voice pass, the rewrite also sharpens the hook, tightens the middle and adds a closing line.
Every one of those might be an improvement. None of them was requested, and the person now has to read the whole thing carefully to find what else moved, which costs more than the improvements were worth.
How someone breaks their lines, how long their paragraphs run, whether they use white space as punctuation. Readers register this before they read a word, and a post in the right words with the wrong shape does not read as that person.
Converted pieces are checked against what has already been published. The most common accidental duplicate is a post converted twice, months apart, from the same original source, which nobody notices internally and the audience does.
Skills compound. These are the ones we usually install alongside it.
